Bee Mountain Woodworks started as my dream 25 years ago, and has gradually become a reality. Watching my father's woodworking as a child, I knew that someday I would be a woodworker as well. For many years, as I was busy with children and a demanding job, I collected woodworking tools and allowed the idea to simmer. Finally, the time was right. I demolished an outbuilding on our property and rebuilt it as a custom woodworking shop. Finally all of my beloved tools had a home!
I've always had an interest in fireplace bellows, and as the shop was completed, I started working on a design. Experience, along with a lot of trial and error, led me to the bellows I create today.
I am drawn to traditional, sturdy and functional forms. I admire Celtic knots and other designs, and often incorporate them into my pieces. I strive to produce quality items that can be handed down for generations, so cutting corners is a big no-no in my shop!
I use a combination of hand tools and modern shop tools in my shop. I prefer traditional tools, but the recent addition of an engraving machine and a small CNC has opened up endless possibilities for me!
Whenever possible, I recycle wood that would otherwise be discarded. An old church piano, pallets, remnants from an oak floor and old barn lumber are just a few of the sources for my wood. It warms my heart to think of the wood from that early 1900's piano, played for a congregation for many years, and enjoying a second life as many fine sets of bellows.
I'm always open to new ideas. If you see something you like, but would prefer a different wood, finish or custom engraving, I can work with you to produce the piece you want. Do you have a board from Grandpa's barn that you'd like turned into a set of heirloom bellows? I can do that as well. I enjoy the design process, and I don't charge extra to design a custom image or for engraving.
Thank you for visiting my shop, and I hope you enjoy my pieces as much as I enjoyed making them!
